Case Studies > A Bio-Medical Company

The challenge

Medifit Diagnostics Limited is a company formed specifically to promote and market a new and
innovative product known as the NeuroScope for sales into identifiable Medical, Veterinary, Sports and Leisure markets. The company introduced the first machine in the world for monitoring and measuring cardiac vagal tone in real-time. Their earlier products were standalone, running on desktop-based PCs. Keeping in view the latest requirements for a well-networked modern hospital and to fully exploit the potential of Neuroscope in new generation telemedicine, a project was conceived to develop a standalone Neuroscope with modern networking capabilities.

The Solution

An offshore development team was setup for Medifit in the CoEfficient Software's development center in New Bombay. A new Embedded System was built to facilitate the needs of hospitals and have a database server to capture the data real-time over wired and wireless networks.

The following major works were carried out for the successful completion of the phase 1 of the application: -

  • Design and development of the hardware architecture
  • Development of networking software and interfacing the same with the application software for transfer of data over wired and wireless networks

The new system has the following features: -

  • It is a miniature version of the old desktop-based system
  • It is a standalone embedded system with TX486- high performance math co-processor. TX486 is a stand-alone IBM/PC compatible DX4 PC/104 processor module
  • It has networking capability over wired and wireless networks using the TCP/IP protocol specially meant for medical system
  • Integration of the above application with Oracle 9i database using Pro*C for data storage and data handling operation
  • The main server side programming for handling multiple client applications over a network
  • Web-server development and XML programming for WAP and WEB enabling the application data for their availability over internet
  • Integration of the streaming Audio and Video with the main application for audio-video enabling of the application over Internet for telemedicine practices and connectivity in big hospitals over virtual channels

Technologies used

  • C, Pro*C, C++
  • VB, Oracle 9i
  • TX486- high performance math co-processor, TCP/IP
  • ASP, XML, IIS, CUSeeme Conference servers

The Result

The successful completion of phase 1 saved a lot of strategic time to market for Medifit, which has rolled out several systems to various hospitals and the numbers are growing. The association was so beneficial that CoEfficient-Netsystems alliance and Medifit has signed a long-term contract to develop strategic software for Medifit’s vital care network products.
